 Lag Discussion (and suggestions)
« Thread Started on Nov 5, 2009, 1:32pm »

Hey all,

As we all know, lag has apparently been a huge issue as of late in CAW vs CAW matches. I personally haven't experienced it as of yet, (my internet provider here is pretty fast though), but I'm concerned about how lag will impact our player base.

I'm excited for this e-fed. I love RP-ing, but a component of NCW really is the matches. So, I've got a couple suggestions, please feel free to let me know what you think, good or bad...

1) I don't know for sure, but some have suggested that including logos and images etc that weren't allowed for online play last year, along with the paint tool, is causing a lot of lag. I can't speak for anyone else, but I know I would totally remove those from my CAW to help with lag. Is this something anyone else would support/be interested in? I know it takes away from all of our visions of what our CAW should truly look like, but the way I see it,we had to work within those restrictions in years prior, and if it helps with lag, why not?

2) Choosing existing superstars. I know this is a huge deal for a lot of people (myself included), but if it honestly came down to either using guys from the existing roster or not having NCW, I'd go with the existing roster. This really is a last ditch resort, as I think we'd all like to avoid this at all costs (other than the people already playing as guys from the roster, obviously), but if it came down to it, would anyone else do it?

If anyone else has any information, alternatives, suggestions, whatever, give it a go and let us all know.

Nova and myself had a match the very first night of release with logs and shit absolutely no lag.

So I really don't think thats the problem. Using in-game's would be fine with me but we have had matches where lag will still show up midway through in the match. I find it highly unlikely that most of the guys will switch to in-games only as well.

I really think lag is caused but all the uploading/downloading it really seems to be the only thing that can be causing this damn lag this year.

I don't know what to suggest other than lets just hope it goes away which is something I doubt will. Unless THQ does something to fix this I don't know what we can do and I really do see the lag end up killing the fed which is the last thing I want to happen.

Yeah we had a long chat about this. First night, around 12am, no lag. Then the lag started to hit like crazy from then on.

The other night, we did a CAW match, my caw uses the paint tool, as well as logos, believe scorps just has logos, no paint tool, but yeah, lag was there. I then picked a different CAW, one without paint tool, and there is still lag.

Hell even the in-games have lag as i faced him with Christian and he was Matt Hardy. There was a slight less lag, but it was still there.

I agree that this ruins the fed instantly, nothing has ever been this bad where we couldnt work around it. No matter what it seems like there will be lag. Sad that Namco already released a patch for Tekken that clears up the lag on there, yet THQ cant get off their lazy asses and make separate servers for the downloads and for the matches.

I'm probably the last person that would want to say, no NCW, due to all the graphic work ive put in over the course of this entire year, since we ended 09, but i have never seen anything like this lag wise in SvR, 07, 08 and 09 were all fine. Hell me and scorp even went back to 09, to make sure it wasnt our connections... and it was fine on there.

I dont even know how people play through it, i can't bring myself to play like that, i love the reverse window being so small, but when u throw in just that slight lag, it throws it all off.

What to do about it? I honestly do not know. It doesn't seem like anything helps. Only thing that will help is THQ gets the hell up and does a damn patch. Sad too, cause 2010 actually seemed good enough to last.

It makes me really sad... is there anything we can do in the meantime to maybe keep the matches going still? We'd still RP, but I dunno what you would do to determine the outcome of the matches... it's too much work for someone with a capture card to DL all the CAWS and have the CPU do the matches on legend difficulty and record it. Plus nobody's stats would be what they're supposed to without a lot of work.

Yeah just doing that would basically turn us into a RP only fed, that would kinda defeat the purpose, since everyone wants to play the matches lol. I dunno, honestly i have no idea what to do other than just see what THQ does lol.

by the looks of it, it seems like for a while, we probally wont be able to use paint and logos, only designs, hopefully this fed wont die due to lag,I managed to make a design only attire, tested it online with a friend and we didnt have much of a problem, it also seems that the default colours cause less lag than customised colours.

Soo are we holding off until further notice or are we still starting up next week? Cuz the lag is killer, the last time I played it. But ive made a new attire with no logos and such soo maybewe could find a way to make it work?

Well like i said, i did use a caw minus the paint tool, and it still had lag, i dunno, i will try to run more tests since you guys say with no logos and all that, there is no problem. Its really stupid to have to do that though lol, but i dunno if it even matters since i did a in-game match with Christian and Matt Hardy and it still lagged.

The lag wouldn't be a huge issue if the reverse window was the same as past years, but with it being so small, really sucks up the gameplay.
